(KUTV) SALT LAKE CITY - A convicted sex offender is in trouble again for allegedly downloading child porn at a Salt Lake hospital.

45-year-old Kevin Edward Sutherland worked at Primary Children’s Medical Center.

During that time, his computer login was reportedly used to access porn, hundreds of times.

Sutherland was immediately fired.

But he claims he’s not interested in child pornography, and it was one of his other personalities that did the downloading.

One of those personalities, he says, is a teenage boy who likes to look at girls his own age.

Sutherland now faces felony child porn charges.

Police Arrest Suspect in Ipswich Prostitute Murders

IPSWICH, England —  Police arrested a 37-year-old man Monday morning on suspicion of murdering five prostitutes in eastern England, a senior officer said.

The man was arrested at about 7:20 a.m. at his home in Trimley, near the port of Felixstowe, Detective Chief Superintendent Stewart Gull of Suffolk Police said in a brief statement to reporters.

“He has been arrested on the suspicion of murdering all five women,” Gull said.

“The man is currently in custody at a police station in Suffolk where he will be questioned about the deaths later today,” he said.

Trimley is 8 miles southeast of Ipswich, where all five victims were known to work as prostitutes.

Their naked bodies were found dumped in rural areas near Ipswich, 70 miles northeast of London, over a 10-day span beginning Dec. 2.

Earlier in the morning, police announced that coroner’s inquests into the deaths of Tania Nicol, Anneli Alderton, Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls had been postponed.

Clennell, 24, died of compression to her neck, and Alderton, 24, was strangled, a senior pathologist determined. Post-mortem examinations of the bodies of Nicol, 19, and Nicholls, reached no conclusion on the cause of death.

An inquest into the death of Gemma Adams, 25, was opened and adjourned last week. The pathologist reached no conclusion about the cause of her death.

The investigation had strained the resources of one of England’s smallest police forces, and 340 specialist investigators were brought in from across Britain to join 160 Suffolk officers working on the case.

By Sunday morning, police had received more than 10,000 calls from the public offering information, Gull said.

Cologne fills tax gap with levy on prostitutes

BERLIN (Reuters) - Cologne will earn a record 828,000 euros ($1.1 million) in “sex tax” revenues this year, a figure well above expectations when the levy was first introduced by Germany’s fourth largest city in 2004.

Cologne officials, who say their city is a worldwide pioneer in taxing prostitution, were quoted in local media reports on Friday saying the sex tax component of the “pleasure tax” had jumped from 790,000 euros in 2005 to about 828,000 this year.

Cologne, which introduced the tax two years ago to raise money after national reforms left the city woefully short of cash, has been charging prostitutes a flat 150-euro per month tax since 2004, replacing a voluntary reporting scheme.

The so-called “pleasure tax” (Vergnuegungssteuer) was first levied on casinos and amusement arcades but widened in 2004 to include brothels, massage parlors and table-dancing clubs.

In 2006, the city introduced a new 6-euro per day fee for “part-time” prostitutes who had claimed the 150-euro monthly fee was unfair. Authorities said many prostitutes had documents proving they were only working a few days each month.

Prostitution is legal in Germany and sex workers are required to pay tax on their income and a value-added tax.

Nevada brothel awarded trademark name

SPARKS NV (UPI) — A Nevada judge has ruled that the owner of a brothel can begin using its trademark name of Mustang Ranch.

The Reno (Nev.) Gazette-Journal reported that Lance Gilman, the owner of the Wild Horse brothel, was awarded the trademark name Friday more than seven years after he purchased the rights to it from the U.S. government.

Back in 1999, Gilman reached an agreement with government officials to buy the Mustang Ranch’s name, trademark and buildings for $145,000, but a nephew of the original owner had protested the use of the name.

Rival brothel owner David Burgess, whose uncle Joe Conforte opened the Nevada brothel in 1971, began fighting the trademark case four years ago.

After Friday’s court ruling, Gilman told the Gazette-Journal he would implement the name change immediately.

“We’re putting up the Mustang Ranch signs right away and celebrating. This is a tremendous victory for us,” he explained. “Tell everybody the Mustang Ranch is alive and rides again.”
